Hostel Belize City

Yumas House BelizeBelize is late in the game for catering to backpackers but in the past few years many new and impressive hostels have been popping up all over the country. The original place for budget travellers has always been Caye Caulker but now it’s extending to the South and West of Belize. Matter of fact, on my recent visit to San Ignacio I got exciting news that friends were opening a hostel! How awesome – how tired am I of Belizeans thinking the only way to get into tourism is by opening a luxury resort.

Bellas BackPackers CayoLove it or hate it, backpacking has been a quintessential component of travel since curiosity first lured us out to explore the world.

Yumas House Belize

Caye Caulker is backpackers’ paradise with its Caribbean colours and laidback vibe. The island is famous for rastas, fresh seafood and The Split. Yumas House used to be known as Tina’s Backpackers but it was sold and renamed by the new ownership. I’m not a hundred percent sure but I think it is the first hostel in Caye Caulker.

Bella’s Backpackers Hostel

!old house hostel belize Bella’s Backpackers is rated as a top place to stay and is smack in the center of downtown and near one of my favourite restaurants: Ervas!

The Old House Hostel

Also located in San Ignacio, The Old House is an awesome new addition to budget accommodations in my very own hometown. An old British colonial building was left with its unique character and my friend Davina added some of her cool eccentric art. The location is very central and the bottom floor hosts a cultural art space that once in a while hosts musical artists from across Belize.

Pedro’s Inn San PedroPedro’s Inn

Ambergris Caye is Belize’s most popular destination and has consecutively been rated the best island in the world by TripAdvisor members. The island has limited budget option so Pedro’s usually gets filled up fast with backpackers. San Pedro is great for travellers looking for good nightlife and it’s heaven for foodies since it has the best restaurants in Belize.

The Funky Dodo Hostel

Hopkins is a quiet Garifuna village that is a must-visit for anyone who wants to have a unique cultural experience in Belize. You will enjoy learning their history, eating their food and taking drumming lessons. The Funky Dodo hostel is located right in center the village, close to the beach and has a nice treetop bar and restaurant.
